The Shannara Chronicles: Official Trailer & Season 2 Premiere Date Released

Everything is about to change in the Four Lands. Allanon (Manu Bennett) warns as much in the season 2 trailer for The Shannara Chronicles above, but Wil’s (Austin Butler) not having it. “I’m not interested in saving the world anymore,” he insists. But of course, he’ll have to join the fight: Allanon gifts him the sword of Shannara (!) and a new hero’s quest to pursue along with it.

The 10-episode second season of the fantasy series based on Terry Brooks’ novels switches networks, from MTV to Spike, and takes place a year after the season 1 finale, in which Amberle (Poppy Drayton) saved the Ellcrys by, well, becoming it. Though the war’s over, a new terror is rising throughout the Four Lands: A group called The Crimson has begun hunting down magic users, with Wil and Allanon as two of their biggest targets. Wil and Eretria (Ivana Baquero) remain separated when the season begins, but with new characters — including a woman named Mareth (Malese Jow) who saves Wil from a Crimson attack, glimpsed in the trailer — involved, they’ll all be forced into the fight.

In addition, season 2 will feature the return of Aaron Jakubenko as Ander and Marcus Vanco as Bandon and introduce new cast members Vanessa Morgan as Lyria, Gentry White as Garet, Caroline Chikezie as Queen Tamlin, and Desmond Chiam as General Riga.

The Shannara Chronicles returns on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 10 p.m. ET on Spike.

Malese joins the cast of MTV’s Fantasy Series ‘The Shannara Chronicles’

MTV has started production on the long-awaited second season of The Shannara Chronicles, the network announced today, revealing some majestic plotlines and some shiny new cast members in the process. Returning for Season 2 will be Austin Butler (Wil), Ivana Baquero (Eretria), Manu Bennett (Allanon), Aaron Jakubenko (Ander) and Marcus Vanco (Bandon). MTV has announced the following new cast members as well:

Malese will play Mareth, a young woman who’s both volatile and unpredictable and possesses magical abilities. Sharp, brash and independent to a fault, Mareth gets what she wants on her own terms (and by any means necessary). She’s best known for her recurring roles as Linda Park/Dr. Light on The CW’s The Flash, as Anna in The Vampire Diaries, and as a series regular on the short lived series Star-Crossed. She also recently guest starred in the first season of MTV’s Sweet/Vicious.
